The multi million dollar company known as Sony has recently had its security breached this past week and has caused the PSN(PlayStation Network) to be down for the past week or so. This outage has caused a big storm in Sony’s fans. More and more blogs, video’s and emails are being sent by the hour with users complaining and wondering when they will get to play there games again.
Sony posted this recently to all its users to inform them of the situation thus far.
Here is the data that Sony is sure has been compromised if you have a PlayStation Network Account:
- Your name
- Your address (city, state, and zip)
- Country
- E-mail address
- Birthday
- PSN password and login name
“It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained,” Sony announced. While the company claims that there is “no evidence” that credit card information has been compromised, it won’t rule out the possibility.
Their advice is to be safe, rather than sorry. “If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.”
Now they also go on about what you can do. They suggest canceling all your credit cards and getting replacements and such. Hey Sony! I thought you said our information we provided to you was 100% safe and secure? Now your telling us we have to throw away our credit cards and get new ones? Oh and if we go in debt then you apologize?
Sounds to me that Sony really dropped the ball on this one. Thats why they recently posted this to all the PSN users announcing the “welcome back” freebies. There giving away free time on certain features on the Playstation Network.
Here is the latest post:
entral components of the “Welcome Back” program will include:
-Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
-All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
-Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.
Good job Sony. Risk Everyones Credit For 30 Days Free Of Music. The Way I See It Sony Better Get There Head In The Game.
